Revisión y propósitos del año nuevo/ Review and purpouses for the new year

Vale, pues no.

b) Claramente he elegido muy mal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As always, I’m doing this kind of things at the wrong time.
I was happily thinking that I could have finished the dull I’m reading before the beginning of 2011 and made a review and then start the year with something better (easy).

Ok, I was wrong.

I didn’t have enough time to do anything, not even to finish that real bore of a book, less to write a post.

So today, ten days later, I’m trying a bit to fix the mess.

Let's see, summary of the last year readings, bullet points:
a) Starting with the obvious: I have read very little! My levels have dropped to the floor and all the explanations sound like excuses to me: “I had less time, being full-time employee makes reading impossible, the life in Madrid is too tiring to have time to read, reading in the tube is awful...”. Only 38 books in a whole year. This is sad and has left my mark on the floor. Anyway, so
Purpose one: read more.

b) Clearly I have chosen badly. Very badly. Most books have gone unnoticed and many others with more pity than glory. So, glancing over at the 38, I save, being an incredible good-hearthed person, 15 of them maximum. Others are yelling to be bookcrossing. I know this is not the aim of the idea, but what can I say, the ones I really like I wont let them free. And although my mother always told me that: what you don’t like, don’t give to others ... I’m pretty sure there are people who loves what I hate.
Purpose two: choose better (this is difficult, the summaries on the back pages are misleading).

c) Not all the things are bad: I've launched with multilingualism. I have overcome the barrier of Spanish / English and have also attacked Portuguese. I think is a great success. It reactives your mind a lot, there are funny similar expressions, you dare to think sentences in that language... One day I'll have enough strength to retake the Deutch and you’ll see ...
Purpose three: try to read in different languages.

d) I have a paperback preference, that makes my readings abundant but not transcendent. Now I live next to a cafe that has an ambient which invites much to read a quality book on it, while taking notes in a Moleskine with a fountain pen and have a chocolate with fritters (much more traditional in Spain than the coffee). This place is the Café Comercial. There is no point of going there to read a paperback, you need to have a hardcover book, if it’s possible of fake leather with fake gold stamping... you know what I mean, that collectible ones that appear every September in your kiosk, doesn’t matter if is Baudelaire or the Odyssey. Besides the place and the customer inspire, every time I go it's like I do a kind of astral travel to Cela’s Colmena. I swear I have touched several tables to see if on the wrong side appears the name of the man who’s this marble stone belongs to. Stop right now, I’m talking crazy.
Purpose four: read more transcendent books (to became the most cultivated person). And occasionally read them in Café Comercial.

e) To post bilingual. For remembering the English and for offering this poor blog to the world.
Purpose five: post in English.

I think this is more than enough for a year.
And it is too large as a summary (and more if I have to translate it).

One last thing, by definition, the best and worst of 2010: El tiempo entre costuras and the Fire. In that order. No doubt.

    Besines!

  2. Qué mujer, señores, qué mujer! Eres asquerosamente genial, you know that. Primero, 38 libros no está tan mal, yo apenas he llegado a ....25!!!!

P.D. Oye un placer encontraros el otro día! El mundo es un pañuelo.

  3. Gracias, gracias.
